I had two surprises last night. The first was from PG&E. It seems that I’ve forgotten to pay my electric bill for a couple of months… well… what can I say? I’m guilty. I will say that I hope they set up some kind of bill pay in the near future… snail mail is dead!

So, as I sat playing solitaire by candle light, the usually disrupting sound of my cell phone became an inviting life preserver from the boredom of the dark. My second surprise of the night was on the other end of the line…

My friend Mack was calling to tell me of his engagement to his longtime girlfriend. After the initial shock wore off, we discussed the details. It turns out that he’d taken a few days off of work to turn his dank shack into a romantic palace fit for the occasion. This was to be a complete surprise… including her answer! And although he did forget to drop to the knee, everything else went as planned and as it turns out, she said yes.

Now I don’t care who you are… that takes some guts. And to this, I say, congratulations Mack and Charlotte!
