Bring Your Clothes Back Home

Mon, September 24th 2007

Here’s one just for fun… This is my Hartford inspired (read: stolen) version of “Bring Your Clothes Back Home”. Not sure where he got it but it’s almost certainly an old Blues/stringband tune. The title may also be “Try Me One More Time”. Not sure. Surely there’s a crusty historian out there who would love nothing better than to shred their larynx berating me for my stupidity on the subject… uncle?

Two more excellent videos. Nice vocals on the Hartford tune. I got my Poe in just a couple of days before you got your Duff so I’m right there with you on the crusty strings thing. I saw Compton do this tune in Asheville, I think, and he never mentioned the name so I guess it could go either way. That Duff is well on its way to peeling paint. Out of idle curiosity, is this your first stringed instrument or did you migrate over from something else?

Thanks Steve,

In a past life, I was a bass player… and played guitar too. Little did I know then that I was a mandolin player in hiding. I shant go back.

No, I wouldn’t do that if I were you. It’s interesting that you mention the 7/24/2004 show of Compton’s. It didn’t dawn on me that was Wisconsin, although the audience banter about “Gophers” should have gotten me there. I downloaded that show from the much-lamented Bluegrass Box and that performance put me on the mandolin. I’ve probably listened to it a thousand times. I’d never laid eyes on one prior to that or played a stringed instrument. I’ve dropped literally thousands of dollars in mandolin-related items and related CDs from downloading that single show. I’d better not start…

Any chance of getting a copy of that show? Maybe I could dig up something of interest to trade. And Steve, there are definitely worse vices/obsessions by which to be consumed.

Good luck, Scott.
