I’ve learned some things today (well, technically yesterday).
Cross country skiing isn’t especially like riding a bike.
When going CC skiing for the first time in 25 years, don’t listen to the REI guy’s recommendation for a “killer” place to go… by “killer” he means you–seeing as you’re buying skis, totally dumb, and obviously a beginner–will be “killed” by the numerous falls you will take because of all the hills. Or perhaps by frostbite… seeing as you will soon have a crotch-full of snow in your pants.
Being that you fell 4 seconds after you strapped the skis on, you might consider this will not be an isolated incident. It might be wise to put your cell phone in a more secure pocket.
Falling a lot makes one grumpy and in some cases (including this one), cold/wet.
Snow does not know how to answer a cell phone… no matter how often you call it.
It’s a good idea to keep a spare hippie around. They come in handy when trying to find small devices in the snow at night.
From the it’s funny ’cause it’s true department comes one of the best explanations of the software development I’ve ever come across… and it’s in cartoon form with small words so even your boss will understand it…
Pumpskully was perhaps thegreatest band in the known universe that you’ve not heard of. Case in point, their version of the Beatles “I Dig a Pony” (a personal fave) recorded during a soundcheck at Nashville’s Exit In. Using this and footage from the Beatles’s rooftop performance of the same song, Steven “Big Toe” B has created a lovely montage during his, obviously, ample freetime. The results are absolutely fabulous… keep in mind however, that this version does not include Charles Hawtrey and the Deaf Aids.
I’d love to stay and chat about my new house that I recently bought, but I’ve got to run down to Wolf Kubly… again (Home Depot is for sissies). In the meantime, feel free to gawk at my new digs and the surrounding area. Bet you wish you lived in the #1 best place to live in the universe…
I had my last cigarette two years ago today. To celebrate, I’m having a lovely vodka tonic with lemon but I offer this smoking tirade to those who would like to participate with me…
The new love in my life is my Electra Townie. I’ve not ridden a bike in twenty years but you can’t get me off this one. I’ve never been a fan of mountain bikes… I don’t find them comfortable in the least, but since there are a ton of great bike paths in Madison, I had been keeping my eye out for some kind of cruiser bike. As it turns out, my neighbor had a Townie… it was cool, just what I was looking for, and unlocked! So… well… I stole a ride on it. I went to the bike store the next day and bought my own Townie… the rest is history.
The Brothers Ray headed out this morning (trying and failing to beat the rain). It was a lot of work to score a couple Pumpkin/Creme Cheese muffins… but well worth it. Feel free to bare witness…
If you’re trying to view an image in Firefox and are seeing this error “ cannot be displayed, because it contains errors”, it’s very likely you’re experiencing the same problem I just solved. I post the solution here because none of the other folks I found reporting the problem posted the correct solution. Firefox (and probably Internet Explorer) cannot display CYMK images… oddly, Safari can (so many of us Mac users won’t have this problem).
To fix this, download the file, open it in a respectable graphic program (eg. Graphic Converter) and change modes from CYMK to RGB. Save the file, upload and you should be home free.
